Calming or prevents coughing. Par excellence is the cough suppressant codeine, an alkaloid obtained from the Papaver somniferun L.
Antibiotic:
A chemical produced by microorganisms, fungi or by synthetic processes, able to kill or inhibit other microorganisms.
Antidote:
A substance that neutralizes the action of poisons.
Anxiolytic:
A substance that can reduce anxiety, meaning an unpleasant emotional state characterized by: increased heart rate, sweating, trembling, weakness and fatigue.
Apetalous:
Without petals.
Aphrodisiac:
A substance that excites sexual desire.
Appetizer:
A substance capable of opening the appetite. They are usually bitter substances.
Aquatic plants:
Plants that remain a part of it or wholly submerged in the water, both fresh and marine. Most algae are aquatic plants and some fungi and mosses, also some higher plants.
Aqueous:
Which has a large proportion of water.
Ascites:
Accumulation of fluid in the abdomen.
Asthma:
Respiratory disease characterized by fits of poor breathing and coughing.
Astringent:
A substance that acts on the skin or mucous membranes dehydrate the tissue function, thus securing an anti-inflammatory action.
Avitaminosis:
Pathological condition that is caused by a lack of vitamins in the diet. Depending on the type of vitamin in question will result in one or another disease.

Angle formed between a leaf or branch and the axis of which part.
