Feverfew (Chrysanthemum parthenium)

Feverfew Feverfew is a biennial or perennial herb, belonging to the Compositae tubulifloras. It has a stem stout, angular, hard by the large population base and leaf-all subject to their respective nipples, but as we move forward in height these are becoming increasingly shorter. At the top of the stem forms a bouquet of flower heads, as a drink, as all reach the same height. It is an herb very fresh and grassy places, which can be found anywhere in the country and even often cultivated in parks and gardens.

FLOWERING

APPLICATIONS

Feverfew contains a substance which varies between 0.05 and 0.4%. It also appears tannic acid, and bitter substances fitosterina. The substance has a yellow or dark green and communicates its characteristic smell of the plant, somewhat reminiscent to the aroma of chamomile. In fact, the properties of this plant are similar to those of common camomile, although this is less pleasing to the palate and the effects are even softer. The pharmacological actions of which we speak are: appetizer, eupeptic, slightly sedative, accelerator menstruation and spasmolytic; also recently been detected some compounds with antimicrobial properties. Therefore, it is especially useful in slow digestion, poor appetite, scanty menses, insomnia and gastrointestinal spasms. It is also recommended its use in preventing migraine headaches. Solo is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. We also warn that the fresh plant can cause contact dermatitis.

ADMINISTRATION

Infusion. It uses a small amount of leaves and / or limbs in a cup of boiling water. 3 cups are taken daily after meals.
Powder. From 100 to 250 mg., Loose or encapsulated, after meals.
