Thyme stubborn (Coridothymus capitatus)

It is a shrub whose small steps between 10 and 25 cm high. The strain is strong and from it several stems grow very rigid. They are completely covered with leaves and a very fine hair. The leaves are small and attach directly to stems, with no corners. They are covered with hair and dimples where they stay a few drops of essence. Can be found in the southern half of Spain, from Valencia Extremadura up through Andalusia. It can also be raised in the Balearic Islands, but is difficult to find in the northern half of the peninsula. One grows in thickets, on slopes of dry and warm.

FLOWERING

Usually begins flowering in June (although in some areas is usually a bit ahead) and then continues throughout the summer to finish in autumn. The flowers are pink and are grouped at the ends. The corolla is divided into 4 or 5 petals and the cup has the same form but with more pointed segments. Smell is very pleasant. Sumidad florida is collected, so the harvest time should coincide with the flowering season, ie from June to October.

APPLICATIONS

The most important component is the essence, which varies greatly by the rate at which the plant produces. It normally contains 1.5% essential and 65% of phenols. It contains very little thymol and carvacrol enough. The essence gives the heady thyme appetite stimulant, antiseptic, toning and antifungal. Phenolic acids enhance the antiseptic action. It has been used against whooping cough, chronic inflammation of the bronchi, asthma, digestive disorders and diarrhea.
