Thin savory (Satureja obovata)

It is a small shrub that grows upright and is rough to the touch. It is a very leafy plant, with leaves encountered, the size of these sheets does not exceed 8 mm. They are so obtuse and rounded at the tip and bind to the stem by a short corner. They have many dimples where the essence is stored and give it to look like stained sheet. Can be found in eastern Spain, Valencia, Almeria and Murcia. Also found throughout Andalusia. It breeds in arid and dry.

FLOWERING

The savory thin begins to bloom from July and continues throughout the summer. The flowers are white and borne in the axils of the upper leaves to form terminal clusters of flowers thrown to one side. In the leaves of this plant numerous pits are distinguished, each of which houses a gland full of essence which informs the common savory intense aroma given off. The flavor of the leaves is slightly spicy oil. Interesting collection of leaves and flower sumidad and therefore the harvest season coincides with the flowering season.

APPLICATIONS

The thin savory has properties very similar to those of the common savory. It also has antiseptic and toning properties, appetizers, digestive and carminative. This plant also acts as an astringent, antidiarrheal and healing. Problems is indicated by loss of appetite, gastrointestinal weakness, gastrointestinal spasms, bloating, stomach aches, bronchitis and external use is used to heal wounds. Side effects, like any substance, described the appearance of skin rashes for use by subsequent internally. In reality it is a rare occurrence, but it is always recommended to start treatment with low dose and gradually increase them. What is important is to exercise caution when given to children, since they are more susceptible to allergy problems.

ADMINISTRATION

Infusion. The leaves should be well broken up before adding them to boiling water, add a dessert spoon per cup. It takes a cup after meals.
Essence. From 3 to 5 drops of the essence on a sugar cube, three times daily after meals.
Adobo. In the eastern part of Spain is used to prepare the olives.
