Tea sierra nevada (Satureja alpina)

Sierra Nevada tea is a perennial plant that belongs to the family of Labiatae. The branches grow horizontally, almost at ground level, so that the height of this shrub is very low. It is fully covered with a very short and soft hair. The leaves are small, odds are born in pairs and are oval-shaped, with small teeth on the edges. They bind to the branches through a corner. This kind of tea can be found mainly in the southern half of the peninsula. It breeds in mountainous areas above 1,000 meters.

FLOWERING

Flowers during the summer months. The flowers are borne among the leaves of the extreme, the calyx has a tubular shape and is covered with a very heavy and strong hair. The corolla is blue and stands to be its measure well above the calyx. Leaves are collected throughout the year, although it is far preferable to coincide with the flowering season, are most active when the principles of the plant. Once harvested are dried in an area with no humidity and sunny. When it finishes the drying process are stored in airtight glass jars.

APPLICATIONS

Its composition has not been studied, as this plant is used only as a home remedy. Its use is widespread in southern Spain, where used to relieve any kind of stomach upset and to cure diarrhea. Sometimes been used as an antispasmodic and antiseptic. Not used in medicine as it's optional replaced by other more efficient plants for pharmaceutical preparations, however in folk medicine is still used, and the shepherds of the southern Peninsula employ when in the mountains to heal almost any of ailments.

ADMINISTRATION

Infusion. It gets a pint of water to boil and when it starts to boil, add 30 gr. Tea Leaf Sierra Nevada slip the remains of the plant. If the taste is not very pleasant can be sweetened with sugar or honey. We recommend taking a cup after each meal.
