DEMULCENT

Demulcent is a viscous substance that exerts a local protective action, as do the mucus in the mucous membranes. They are used in local treatment of gingivitis, stomatitis, pharyngitis: a cough and sometimes in gastroenteritis. The demulcent can be used in certain types of diarrhea. When there cough due to irritation of the pharyngeal mucosa, above the epiglottis, pharynx can use a demulcent. Some have honey as a demulcent syrups.
