Oil:
Oily substance, and liquid fuel. Insoluble in water but mixes easily in organic solvents like ether. The oils, according to their origin can be classified as mineral oils, vegetable or animal.
Ointment:
Medicinal preparations that are applied to the skin at ambient temperatures, softening with body heat due to its resin content. It stretches the skin, mucous membranes or damaged tissues, (now considered synonymous with ointment).
Ointment:
Semisolid dosage form without water or too little of it, intended to be applied externally, containing one or more medicinal substances.
